How to use the chart
This helper uses a compact education chart (reps × RPE → %1RM). It is not a substitute for logged performance. If the suggested load feels like RPE 9 when you wanted 8, drop weight next set.

RPE charts as load translators
Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) describes proximity to failure; percentage of 1RM estimates load. Charts that link them are planning bridges, not laws of physics. Individual strength curves, fiber makeup, and exercise selection shift the mapping — especially on deadlifts versus machines.
Beginners often overestimate RPE early because unfamiliar discomfort feels like failure. After a few months of honest logging, RPE becomes more stable. Until then, prefer simple “leave 2–3 reps” cues and conservative charts.
Use this helper when a program says “3×5 @ RPE 8” and you want a starting load guess from an estimated 1RM. After the first work set, trust the bar speed and technical quality more than the chart. If RPE jumps unexpectedly, reduce load rather than grinding ugly reps.
Worked example: estimated 1RM 140 kg and a target of five reps at RPE 8 might start near the low-to-mid 110s depending on the chart edge. If reps are snappy, nudge up next set; if the bar slows early, stay put or drop 2.5–5 kg.
