This glossary gives the short, plain-language meaning of terms used across Muslex. Each definition describes general training education for healthy adults, not an individual prescription.
Programming and effort
- Workout split
- How training sessions divide muscle groups or movement patterns across a week.
- Full body
- A session that trains most major movement patterns rather than one body region.
- Upper/lower
- A split alternating upper-body and lower-body sessions.
- PPL
- Push, pull and legs: sessions grouped by broad movement function.
- Progressive overload
- A planned increase in training demand over time, such as load, repetitions, sets or control.
- RPE
- Rating of perceived exertion, usually on a 1–10 scale for set difficulty.
- RIR
- Repetitions in reserve: an estimate of good repetitions left before failure.
- 1RM
- The heaviest load a person can lift once with acceptable technique.
- Working set
- A planned challenging set after warm-up sets.
- Deload
- A temporary reduction in training demand to manage accumulated fatigue.
Equipment
- Adjustable dumbbell
- A handle system that changes load using plates, a dial, pin or selector mechanism.
- Spinlock
- A dumbbell or bar that secures plates with threaded collars.
- Power rack
- A four-post lifting structure designed to support a bar and safety system.
- Squat stand
- A more open bar-support structure, often with a smaller footprint than a full rack.
- Safety arms
- Horizontal supports intended to catch a bar during a failed repetition.
- Resistance curve
- How resistance changes through the range of motion; bands usually get harder as they stretch.
- Latex-free band
- A resistance band made without natural rubber latex; material and allergy claims still require verification.
- Weight increment
- The smallest load change available on a machine, dumbbell or plate setup.
Recovery and nutrition
- DOMS
- Delayed-onset muscle soreness that often peaks one to three days after unfamiliar training.
- Training volume
- The amount of work performed, commonly described with sets, repetitions and load.
- Energy balance
- The relationship between energy consumed and energy used over time.
- Protein target
- An estimated daily protein range based on bodyweight, activity and goal.
- Creatine monohydrate
- The most studied form of supplemental creatine for high-intensity training support.
- Third-party certification
- An external programme that checks defined product or manufacturing criteria within its stated scope.
